General Information

TOBB University of Economics and Technology has been founded by The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in order to educate enterprising and qualified social leaders. By producing authentic and universal information, our university aims to contribute to the development of our country and stands as a sample for institutional and social responsibility. By applying the co-operation of university and industry to its education model, TOBB ETU has pioneered in Turkey.

Our university which anticipates to shape the future and educate individuals to govern Turkey has started education and teaching in the academic year 2004-2005 with three faculties consisting 7 departments to all of which 270 students have been accepted.(Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Faculty of Science and Literature). The number of departments has risen to 10 and the number of students has risen to 733 in 2005-2006 academic year in our university which has acquired a different and distinguished place on September 24th in 2004 in the Turkish education system with its particular education program and application.

Our aim is to become a well-known, respected and competitive university in the fields of education, research and implementation in 2015 not only in Turkey but also in the world. Educating our students as individuals who are ready to life, to govern Turkey and are entrepreneur is among the pioneering aims of our university. In the direction of achieving these aims our university will get its place in the global world by opening new departments, co-operating with the leading universities, academic institutions and international establishments.

History

The founder of our university is The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, which is a powerful union with 1.2 million members spread across the country and described as the accelerating power of the business world. TOBB is the biggest organization in the Turkish business arena.

Academic Units

The TOBB ETU is on its way to becoming a global university which produces technical knowledge and can transfer knowledge to technology.

Our university which opened in the 2004-2005 academic year believes that its students will start a step ahead in life when they graduate.

The TOBB ETU is preparing to become a globally known, respected and competitive university in the fields of education, research and application by the year 2015. The University has a total of 10 departments within 3 faculties. These are the Faculties of Engineering, Economics and Administrative Sciences and Science and Literature.

The TOBB ETU has adopted the principle of "hands on" learning and aims to provide a learning environment which brings together the global and the local as well as the theory and the application. The TOBB ETU, is a candidate to becoming a research base which is known world-wide. In order for this objective to be realized, it is aimed for Turkish scientists overseas to return to our country.

The number of departments increased to 10 and the number of students became 733 in the 2005-2006 academic year for our university that took its refined place in the education system of Turkey on the 24th of September 2004 with its application and experimentally based authentic educational curricula. The number of students enrolled in our university is declared as 460 in the academic year 2006-2007.

Our university is proud to have academic staff who researches, is dynamic and follows recent developments, is equipped with recent knowledge and information, who researches current issues and produces new knowledge. Our university is the first to make a principle of ensuring 80% of its academic teaching staff are young. Scientists who have international expertise in their field are also a part of the academic staff at TOBB ETU.

TOBB-ETU has succeeded in working collaboratively with industry with the aim of training persons who will ready for life and ready to govern Turkey with entrepreneurial skills, by providing the opportunity for Turkish scientists at universities oversea or those who are working in companies or research centers to conduct research in the laboratories of the University. By doing so, our aim is to attempt to reverse the flow of intellectual resources back to our country.
